Clinton Arnold has captured the essence of the issues surrounding spiritual warfare. He iw well versed in the issues relating to the topic and is well able to balance the variety of thoughts. He is taking an assertive yet measured approach to spiritual warfare and this book serves as a good primer on the topic.

This is the best book I've read on Spiritual Warfare so far! Scholarly, yet written in an understandable and readable fashion. Arnold shows keen awareness on what's been happening in contemporary spiritual warfare teachings.

The 3 questions he answers are, 1. What is Spiritual Warfare? 2. Can a Christian be Demon-Possesed? 3. Are We Called to Engage Territorial Spirits?

The issues he deals with are many. In this book, he manages to be very gentle and loving to both sides of the issue (charismatics and non/anti-charismatics ought to read this book because both can learn from what he has to say) and for that matter, very balanced.

If you're concerned about so called "territorial spirits" Arnold deals with it in a balanced fashion in question 3. If you're concerned about demons and their role in spiritual warfare and whether they can affect or inhabit a Christian, Arnold will provide biblical answers in question 2. And if you just want to know what in the world is spiritual warfare, and how ithe world, flesh and the devil relate to one another and the Christian, then read his answer to the first question.

Overall an excellent book that will bring much balance to the contemporary world of Spiritual warfare - drawing biblical insights from both the more classical and traditional mode of spiritual warfare teachings, as well as the more contemporary/chrismatic ideas on spiritual warfare. Since as Arnold says that, "Spiritual warfare is an integral part of the entire Christian experience", let us therefore seek to have a biblical and balanced view of Spiritual Wwarfare by reading this book! :) God bless!

Clinton E. Arnold with his extensive knowledge of early Christianity and expert in biblical study of spiritual warfare has written the most biblical and soundest theology about this topic. He answers the 3 questions: What ist spiritual warfare, Can a Christian be demon-possessed, Are we called to engage territorial spirits. He also reflects on Peter Wagner book "Confronting the Powers". Excellent to read also for laypeople.

The authors discuss various ways celebrating festivals throughout the year. What I found interesting was that this book was written from a British/European perspective so, it was easy for me to get new ideas for celebrating the holidays. There are songs and stories and patterns you can use to make the crafts in the book. I wish that they had color pictures though. The authors commented on this in the book saying it had something to do with a budget. The pictures were easy to interpret, I would just have liked to see them in color. The authors' ideas about a seasonal table were interesting and I plan on using this book as a starter for planning holidays and a seasonal table with my family.

Some of my favorites are the more obscure ones that have fallen out of favor in our modern world, such as Shrove Tuesday celebrated prior to Lent, Whitsunday, and St. Nicholas Day. This book has so many ideas, you can't possibly do them in one year and that's why it's such a value. As I have, you will return to it again and again.

I read this book while reading Clinton on Clinton at the same time, and found this one to be much more negative. The pyschology of Clinton is interesting, but at time it get a little to in-depth for somebody wanting to know about politics and not childhood lessons that were learned. It talks about Clinton's mother, which is interesting to hear. If you want an overview of Clinton, don't read the book, if you feel like you need to know evrything, read it.

I had never head of this book before I spotted it on the shelf of my local bookstore. But after reading it, I was surprised that it hadn't received more attention and praise. As far as the Clinton books go, this is the few non-partisan works you will find. Further, it is packed with information and original analysis. David Maraniss's biography is still the best on this subject but Mr. Renshon's book is close behind. He complements Maraniss by offering psychological insights and then applying these to Clinton's first term in office. The result is a clever book that will leave the reader more informed and enlightened about this enigmatic president.

I bought this book because I heard a talk by the author on C-Span summarizing the book, and I had been puzzled by Bill Clinton's behavior. This book gets to the root of his behavior and why he does what he does, and why he does it the way he does. Part of the book is devoted to the real history of Clinton's young life, and part to the analysis of recorded behaviours in his political life. The combination truly clarifies what is going on. Stanley Renshon is Professor of Political Science at CUNY with a specialty in Psychology of Political Behavior, and does a fine job in this book.

Kentucky Woman certainly seems to epitomize Roosevelt's famous quote. This book is so historically real that you sweat when reading about the summer days. I couldn't help but appreciate my carefree world compared to Viebie's and many times wondered just how many of my relatives she may have known due to geography and time. I enjoyed reading about a true Kentucky woman and the strength that she possessed. So many people today are so self-absorbed that life's lessons are lost but we could all learn something from Viebie.

Kentucky Woman, by Mary Ellen Klatte, really touched me. The book shares the life story of a strong, loving woman in a challenging time. It stirred up memories of my Grandmother, a kentucky woman born just 4 years before Viebie and from a nearby place. References to such things as apple butter, custard pie and sun-bonnet girl quilts brought back vivid scenes from my childhood experiences with my Grandmother. Even the slang terms made me smile as I remembered my Grandmother calling me "fleshy" when I put on a few pounds. Viebie's life is a testament to determination, love and making the most of your life. I highly recommend this book. It is a love story but also a keen reminder of another time and place, so different from today.

Although I thouhgi that I would only read a few pages, I was captivated by this book and didn't put it down until I finished it. Her picture on the back cover of the book reflects much of the great humor, pride, and positive nature of this fine woman. It was with great interst that I read of her life, and as a historian I am always interested to read and reflect on the lives of people who have made a contribution to their country and their community. So often people are only interested in the biography of the rich and famous, and they tend to forget the dogged hard work, perserverance and love that comes from the so called "common folks." Certainly Viebie was not the common folks, for within her determination and self sacrifice without complaint we see the real family values and real profiles in courage. Our young folks tend to think that all the modern conveniences have always been in the United States. They tend to forget that much of America was small and provincial and that gratification and desires were not instantly met and that great sacrifice was often the life of many before us. The life of Viebie Catron Cantrell is inspirational, in that it tells us of the spirit of a well reflected life, in her hopes and dreams of her community and her family told in letters and sweet poetry. We see here the small trials and tribulations of a young woman undergoing her daily tasks of getting an education, teaching, experiencing the hopes and despairs of everyday life, and seeing through her eyes the hard times of the 1930's, and her special courtship through her letters and reflections. Many of the colloquial expressions are also very interesting. This book is a fast and fun account of a proud woman and her family, and it was a joy to read despite the sad times that were met with this uncomplaining God fearing woman.

It is a refreshing start to a book when the author admits up front that he is and was a strong supporter of President Clinton. Unlike many of the books that have come out regarding Clinton, either positive or negative, they all profess to be unbiased and fair, but usually by about 25 pages in you know the track the author is following. With this book the author admits up front his position so there is never any question as to the slant he was using. You could read the book and know that the positive side of the situation was being documented, not a sly attempt to malign the President.

As you know from reading the book synopsis, the author was the head speechwriter for Clinton and was with him for almost his entire Presidency. Unfortunately for me that fact seemed to mean that he was not really involved in any policy decision (I assumed that fact going into the book), but also that he did not share any gossip or good insight in how many decisions were made. I do not think there was anything detailed in the book that was not already spelled out in other books or in the papers. The laborious speech writing process Clinton used was interesting and the lack of organization of the early administration was expressed well.

Overall I found the book to be just average, nothing really new. I felt that best parts of the book dealt with the start of Monica issue and the impeachment process and how the speechwriting team just kept plugging away. If you are looking for a light book from a Clinton fan then this book will make you happy. I would suggest that the following books are better: Locked in the Cabinet (by Reich), All Too Human (by Stephenopolis) and Shadow (by Woodward). All of them give far more detail and I thought they were actually better written.

This book gives a fine example of what it's like to work for the most powerful, or one of the most powerful, person[s] in the world. Not unlike the NBC show "The West Wing", the battles over language; the frustration over when things go wrong and the joy at when they go right, this book by Michael Waldman sparkles with wit and humor. It also goes a long way to explaining the tough task of working for a President like Bill Clinton. If you're a "West Wing" fan, as I am, and want to get a clue into working inside the White House, read this book.

Whether you admired the 42nd President or not, many agree he had fabulous oratorical skills. A person who is partly responsible for that was Michael Waldman, his chief speechwriter and author of POTUS Speaks. Even though he admits having a bias for Clinton, it is clearly non-evident in this book, in comparison to grossly negative statements or outlandish praises about a complex President. If you've ever wanted to know what a Clinton speechfest was really like, this book is for you. It takes you into the last minute motorcade edits and to gaffes by the White House staff (which Clinton masterfully covered up with his brilliant skills). An example is the big NAFTA speech, in which the President doesn't have the correct speech, and instead the "sloppy copy" with edits and cross outs all over the place. And, no one knows the difference.
A must read for anyone interested in the White House.

The "saskatoonguy" description of the book dated 24 April 01 pretty much nailed it on the head. The book is more about the personal and management styles of Presidents Roosevelt through Clinton. The reference to tape recordings is more of a come-on to attract readers. The recordings are more of a sidelight in this description of the administrative styles of the referenced presidents.

In fairness, though, recordings were used minimally by Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower and the post-Nixon administrations shied away from recordings as well (although video recordings of certain events started under President Reagan). Only Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon made extensive use tape recordings and the first two still exercised control over what was recorded -- a practice that Nixon did not adopt and later regretted. The most memorable examples used were a couple of Johnson's recordings. A somewhat humorous recording, in spite of the tragic circumstances, was President Johnson's arm twisting his mentor, Senator Richard Russell of Georgia, into serving on the Warren Commission. Senator Russell despised Earl Warren. The second was a meeting to determine whether the Administration would commit 200,000 more troops to Vietnam where President Johnson finally decided to reverse his policy and start pulling back from that unpleasant and costly adventure.

As for the descriptions of the administrations themselves, the book, in my opinion, is a testimonial to how too much emphasis is put on "qualifications" to be President. Each individual who has served in the Oval Office, including the current occupant and his successors, will have certain strengths and weaknesses that may prepare them well for the challenges that confront them, or not prepare them well at all. I always felt that in terms of "qualifications", Herbert Hoover was one of the most qualified men to serve as President. Under normal circumstances, his qualifications may have been adequate. But an economy plunging into a depression is not "normal". As much as I disliked President Carter, there is no disputing his intelligence. But he was so bogged down in learning what to do that he scarcely did anything at all (I do not agree with Mr. Doyle's revisionist attempt to portray the Carter Administration as being more than what it was, a failure). As Hoover was replaced by a visionary, so too was Carter. In terms of intellect, President Reagan does not rank very high. But he was successful in ways that his more "qualified" successor, George Bush Sr., could never understand. I also do not attribute the Clinton's Administration lack of cooperation with investigators to poor management practices that resulted in evidence being lost and unavailable until, conveniently, the investigation was over. I think deliberate obstruction of justice was a bigger factor.

Although I supported George W. Bush in 2000 and would never, ever even consider voting for his opponent, I am not one of those who now claim how fortunate we are that he was president on 11 September 2001 and not Al Gore. I doubt anybody knows how a Gore Administration would have responded -- even Al Gore himself. No knock intended as it even took some time for the Bush Administration to recover and respond. If Al Gore was president, people would find certain aspects about his background and style that would be right for that crisis -- just as they did for George W. Although his response may have been different, the public would have supported his response if it was a strong response -- something considerably stronger than lobbing a few cruise missiles at an aspirin factory in a third world country.

Bottom line: A good summary of the administrative and personal styles of Presidents Franklin Roosevelt through Clinton. However, if you are looking for more substance in terms of recordings, you will be disappointed.

After reading and listening to "Taking Charge," which was about LBJ's secret tapes, I was expecting the audio version of "Inside the Oval Office" to use many more actual recordings. Instead, the reader reads transcripts of conversations. The tapes contain a few actual recordings but very few, about one per president. Inexplicably, it presents no actual recordings of Reagan, Bush or Clinton. This was a disappointment since I knew from listening to "Taking Charge" that actual recordings contain great insights into the men who inhabited the White House. A reader cannot possibly capture the nuances of language used by our 20th century presidents. There is a great difference between hearing a president's actual words and having them read from transcripts. However, the content of the book and audiotapes provide a facinating glimpse inside the oval office.

This is a terrific book and rewards the reader with insight into the modern presidency. It talks about each President's strengths and how each of them got themselves into trouble and it illustrates its points using each President's own words. Because it is less than 400 pages long it is hard for Doyle to support all the claims he makes, but it is still worth reading. More than that, it is worth owning and re-reading. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that I think the book could have gone a bit deeper into each presidency without adding too much length. It was just a bit too much this side of a tourist's guide to each presidency.

But there are so many wonderful and new insights that I feel guilty for not giving it five stars. So, if you want, just imagine that I did give it the full five with this little caveat.

America's funniest political pundit dissects America's funniest president (whom Sobran rightly likens to Falstaff): so how can you possibly go wrong with this collection of spirited and fierce essays? The author's combination of moral passion with complete freedom from unctuousness remains as impressive as ever.

This is a great selection, full of Sobran's characteristic wit and insight.

Over the last 8 years America was under the charm of the Bill Clinton. Books, magazines, newspapers, television and radio relayed countless stories about the scandals and corruption within the White House day after day and nobody cared - or so I thought.

With this book you have an author who takes an objective and biased looked into what made and what makes up the legacy of Bill Clinton and his presidency. Written with a great detail to the facts, Sobran presents story upon story about what happens when you cross Bill and when Bill determines to disregard his advisors.

Read stories about the sex scandal, dealing with the Republican majority, foreign affairs, trashing those who disagree with Bill and Hillary. Also the is stories about people like Monica, Paula Jones, David Brock, Linda Tripp and others.

Overall the author makes very short work of those liberal myths about what Bill Clinton stood for and what his presidency was all about. Well documented and well argued this book is a real eye opener. The book does require and open mind in order to understand the gravity of each story, but the time spent reading is well worth it.

It is a book I would recommend. I try to translate it into my language and write it to my firend who's in federal prison. His comment is:"Although some information is not updated, it really helps me to understand more about my situation, and the things mentioned in this book is very realistic. You'll understand my situation if you read it deeply." However, it's a little bit short, if it can have more content, it'll be much better. English in this book is simple and rather easy to read, which is suitable for Non-English native reader.

I do not know what happened to cause Dr. Aman's imprisonment, but if one-half of his own story on the subject is true, his bitterness and anger at the system is more than justified. However, you can take the scholar out of the cloisters, but never the scholar's instincts out of the scholar. While incarcerated, Dr. Aman put his time to use observing his fellow convicts' mores, folkways, and slang, and he now shares the fruits of his researches with us. Dr. Aman is, to say the least, extremely unhappy about his imprisonment, which he sees as totally unjustified and excessive, and caused by malice directed toward him by a Wisconsin judge. As I've said, I do not know what the real story is, or what the other side would have to say for themselves...but, reading this, I pray that his anger is never turned toward me, for he is probably _the_ ranking expert on "Maledicta," or swearing and bad language, and could crisp me to a crackly crunch. Much of the book is in the form of a gossipy letter to Hillary Clinton, First Co-Conspirator, since Aman apparently believes that she'll soon be experiencing more-or-less what he went through. Speed the day!

Maledicta has turned out a winner with this one, providing valuable inside information on exactly how to survive in prison, play the politics and even make money on the inside. Included in this publication of valuable inside information, how to deal with other cons, avoid some of the perils of prison life such as blanket parties, rape and the ultimate punishment: murder.

The book also explains how to curry favors from guards, inmates and others to make prison life more bearable. Additionally, this title includes an extensive slang dictionary, as well as a guide on how to gain respect, purchase protection and other necessities.

Written by a role-playing author who takes the mindset of writing a prison handbook for First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, there are many humorous references to the first lady. Think you can't be raped? Guess again. Prison rape never is a nice, clean subject... but you can avoid becoming another victim if you know how to protect yourself.

Not only is this book an informative guide for the new inmate, but it is also yet another critically-acclaimed look at how the BOP (Bureau of Prisons) has failed to make prisons safe places where rehabilitation is carried out, but it is also an entertaining book as well.

Written by Ex-Federal Prisoner Reinhold Aman, this book should be high on the list of those who want to be in the know about the inner workings of the US Prison System and it's many atrocities. While The U.S. Government claims that prisons are improving, the very fact that someone would need a book like this to increase his or her odds of survival from "slim to none" to "above average" demonstrates the degree of failure to which the system has failed to police itself and reform from within.

Costing billions of taxpayer dollars every year, prisons and their conditions are not just the problem of the inmates, it's everyone's problem. Prisons appear to have a habit of attracting long-time residents instead of short-term guests, rehabilitation is obviously a fantasy of The BOP, as opposed to a reality, and what's more, the inmates seem to like it that way.

If you want to see where your hard-earned dollars are going, or you are going to prison, don't miss this book.

Well, the books on Hillary are coming too fast and furious to read all of them. Yet, better to learn more than less. What I cannot understand is why people just do not leave her alone and let the people decide when she runs for election. Speaking of elections, Hillary should switch from running for the Senate of New York to running for The Presidency of the United States. Why? Because she has a great opportunity to win based on her their power of incumbency. No can manipulate people, votes and power better than these two political gurus. If she loses the Senate race and when he leaves the seat of power, like what is in the book, the choice for Americans will be to not recall the past. She is viable, willing and able to win the Presidency now not in 2004. The book discloses such insight between the lines. She has the right to put forth her agenda and have it accepted or rejected by the voters. Read it, it will not provide you with the greatest of stories but it is interesting.

This is a very well written biography of Hillary Rodham Clinton's life from childhood to the aftermath of the Monica scandal. It portrays Clinton as a woman of uncommon intellect and empathy. Warner shows Clinton's dream of a better well-being for America's children, and her personal and not so personal successes and failures. I believe Warner does show the "real" Hillary Clinton.

This book portrays Hillary Clinton as an intelligent, complex, strong, sensitive person. Her identity as a thoughtful, dedicated public servant has been derailed by marital troubles, the harrowing pursuit by partisan bloodhounds, and the fickle opinion of the press and public. This is a book about the stigma that still exists in being a smart, bold woman. It is a sad, frustrating story about misunderstandings, personal foibles, and distortions of Clinton motives and activities created by politics and the media. A believable portrait of Hillary Clinton as a lively, spirited individual who cast her fate with a man whose ideals she shares, suffering pain and doubt that the public and press presume to be privy to but don't understand. We see her expend her incredible energy and talents in public service, only to have her intentions twisted. The book details a great body of work she's done in the areas of family and child advocacy, which endears her as a truly dedicated public servant. I want my daughter to read this book and to learn to persevere, as I cheer Hillary Clinton on to do.

Mr Halley is simply a stooge for the Clintons; he is their response to Drudge they hate so much for having first revealed the Lewinsky story; needless to say, Drudge is as a disgusting a character as anyone trying to balance out his role in the media at the behest of the Clintons who know no limits so far as manipulating public response to their doings is concerned;
nice try, Mr Halley--put on a cap instead of Drudge's stupid hat and make a few bucks along the way...

There is always a possibility that your stalwart support of Senator Clinton (D-New York)will yield a second-tier position in the future Clinton II administration.

Patrick S. Halley's book On the Road with Hillary is a terrific, rollicking, fun read. For Hillary fans, political junkies, or just folks who want to know what really goes on behind the scenes, this is a great book.
I'm not a political junkie but I learned a lot from this book and enjoyed it...Halley is a great story teller, and he tells a story as if you were in his favorite pub in Boston, with him regaling you with tales of a trip just completed, laughing over a glass of his favorite potion, Guinness stout.
Halley is one of the pople that set up appearances for political figures. He prepares successful appearances for Hillary all over the country, from isolated rural college campuses to big city parades and fund raisers. He visits umpteen countries, suffering the hardships of dining in Paris and visiting the poorest places in the world, including Mother Teresa's orphanage in Calcutta. Through it all he never loses the pinch me sense of wonder of a working class kid who makes it good on his native talents but still can't believe his good fortune.
One of the best parts of the book is getting to look at Mrs. Clinton as a real human being. Halley is an unabashed Hillary lover, and he is right up front about that. The thing I liked though is the book does show her as a real flesh and blood human being, and not the one dimensional figure we get through the media at times.
Halley has a real talent for finding trouble and then getting out of it, usually in a daring and funny way. Some of his best stories are about how he wound up buck naked in the lobby of Tokyo's finest hotel, in a losing test of wills with an enraged yak, and in a shoving match with President Clinton while an aghast Mrs. Clinton looked on. But everyone will have a different favorite from this book.
So Hillary bashers, down a quart of maalox and loosen up a bit! But for Hillary lovers, Hillary neutrals, people who like politics, or just people who like fun, this is the book for you.

Just finished this book. I found it to be a very honest account of Mrs. Clinton. A must read. I've always found it amusing that all the Clinton "haters" out there buy the books and read them!Interesting.
